Jeff Dunas began his life-long exploration in photography in 1971. He spent the early part of his career as an editorial and advertising photographer. Internationally known for his nudes, documentary and portrait photography, Dunas also was the editor / publisher of Collectors Photography, Darkroom Photography and Camera & Darkroom magazines in mid-late 1980s. Principally a fine-art photographer since the nineties, his work has been the subject of more than 60 one-person exhibitions including 12 in major American museums since 1998. His work resides in the collections of the Getty Museum, The George Eastman House, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the Bibliotheque Nationale of France, The Galerie Municipal du Chateau De Eau in Toulouse, France and the U.S. Sprint Collection.
His monographs include Captured Women (Melrose / Grove 1981), Mademoiselle! (Melrose / Grove 1982), Voyeur (Melrose / Grove 1983), Jeff Dunas (Taschen, 1985), State of the Blues (Aperture 1998), American Pictures (Aperture 2002 and Up Close & Personal (Merrell, 2003).
Two new books of his work are currently in preparation.
